The Snowflakes are up at Sheffield Children’s Hospital

We have lost count of the number of years Elev8 has been involved in the installation of the snowflakes at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, but we still feel very honoured to take part in this Christmas lighting project again this year.

The snowflakes at Sheffield Children’s Hospital are incredibly special. Each one is sponsored to raise vital funds for the Hospital, and every snowflake has a nametag showing who was kind enough to sponsor it.  If you would like to sponsor a snowflake it is not too late to get involved, find out how here.

Once upon a time it took several weekends to install the hundreds of Christmas lights on the Hospital. In 2020 Elev8’s contract lifting team came up with a clever installation plan to reduce the installation time to just one weekend. This year, with the help of some light wire frames manufactured by local company Gripple, the installation process has been improved yet again.

If you were in Sheffield at the end of November, you might have seen four of our access platforms working together to deliver this Christmas lighting installation in just one weekend.  The MEWPs we used for this project were our Bronto S70XR, Palfinger P640 and two of our Bronto S35EM’s. Using four different access platforms, each with a skilled Elev8 MEWP operator, enabled us to install snowflakes on separate parts of the hospital at the same time, speeding up the whole project.

Turning around such a large installation in one weekend was a huge team effort from the estates team at Sheffield Children’s, all Elev8 divisions as well as our associated company Cinderella Support Services. Elev8 provided the MEWP’s, Operators and traffic management and Cinderella’s building maintenance teams were out in force to assist with the installation.

Sheffield Children’s Charity is a worthy cause close to our hearts. This year 25 Elev8 and Cinderella employees volunteered their time. This equated to a donation of over 300 hours of time to the snowflake installation project.

The whole team at Elev8 and Cinderella pulled together with all departments getting involved. Volunteers included MEWP Operators, the contract lifting team, traffic management, abseilers, cleaners, office staff, building and grounds maintenance teams, and of course both MD’s (Jason & Phil) were there lending a helping hand too. This was a massive collaborative effort, and we cannot thank you enough for giving your time so generously.

The saving made by your donated time will be passed onto Sheffield Children’s Charity, so that more of the money raised by the Snowflakes can go directly to where it is needed in the Hospital.

This Christmas the Children’s Hospital Charity has lots of fund raising initiatives with money raised going towards funding new facilities, lifesaving equipment, pioneering research as well as some very worthy projects at the hospital.
