If you frequently hire a cherry picker it can be cost effective to take them on a self-drive basis rather than pay for one of our IPAF trained operators. All of our truck mounted cherry pickers up to 33 meters of working height and on a 7.5 ton chassis are available for self-drive hire.
All our tracked access platforms are available for self-drive hire, as are scissor lifts, boomlifts and telehandlers.
The correct category of IPAF Licence (category 1b for truck mounted MEWPs). If you are not sure what type of MEWP your IPAF card covers take a look at IPAFS website or contact our hire desk team who will be happy to help you.
These type of access platforms are not mounted on a vehicle and so a driving licence is not required unless you are collecting the item from us on your own suitable vehicle. You will however need:
Not all MEWPs are the same
Even though you hold the correct category of IPAF every make and model of MEWP is different. To help you with your self-drive MEWP hire Elev8 Access Platforms provide a handover of the MEWP or cherry picker that you are hiring which will include a familiarisation of its function and emergency descent. Scissor lift and boom lift familiarisation are also available on request.
Self-drive access platforms can be collected from our self-drive depots between the hours of 8am and 5pm. A standard days MEWP hire is 8 hours, however if you require some flexibility of hire length or collection and delivery times please speak to our hire desk who will do their best to accommodate you.
If you are collecting a tracked access platform, scissor lift, boom lift or telehandler you will need an appropriate vehicle or trailer to accommodate the size and weight of the MEWP. Please speak to our hire desk if you need advice on transporting MEWPs.
Alternatively, any of our self-drive access platforms can be delivered to you or to your worksite. Our hire desk team will be happy to give you a quote inclusive of delivery and collection.
