The Elev8 team simply love getting in the Christmas spirit each year by helping The Children’s Hospital Charity with its annual snowflake appeal.
Twinkling Christmas snowflake lights are installed outside several locations, including Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Sheffield City Hall and in Chesterfield town centre. Every snowflake has a name tag showing who was kind enough to sponsor it. A cause close our hearts, The Children’s Hospital Charity support enhancements to Sheffield children’s hospital over and above the NHS provision.
Sheffield Children’s Hospital is a very special place. Just one of three specialist children’s hospitals in the UK it offers a broad range of services from emergency care through to supporting families and young people. Children come from all over the country for treatment at Sheffield Children’s and the money raised through donations buys life-saving equipment, funds vital research and treatment and helps create a comfortable and engaging environment for the children who are treated there.
Practice makes perfect, and because Elev8 have installed the snowflakes at Sheffield Children’s for many years our team have this project down to a tee.
Sheffield Children’s Hospital is situated on a busy road and traffic management is required to keep everyone safe whilst the snowflakes are installed. Elev8’s traffic management team designed and implemented a traffic management plan which included a full road closure as well as a lane closure.
Once traffic management was in place our truck mounted MEWPS (mobile elevating work platforms) arrived to provide safe work at height for the Elev8 team who installed the snowflakes and checked that they were working. The project took place over two weekends and to speed up the installation we used three powered access platforms, the T510HF, S56XR and S70XR.
This year we also provided safe work at height for installing snowflakes onto Sheffield City Hall using one of our S35EM MEWPS, and the Elev8 team also planned and installed snowflakes onto a building in Chesterfield town centre using the TU285 cherry picker.
Sam our operations Manager got hands on with the installation of the snowflakes this year and had this to say about the project;
“ I am incredibly grateful to Sheffield Children’s Hospital for treating my son’s sleep apnea which would stop him breathing up to 90 times a night when he was a baby. Oliver was referred to Sheffield Children’s after a year of other health care providers trying to find out what was wrong. They ran studies on him, identified the problem and were able to cure it by removing his adenoids and tonsils. I wanted to give something back to Sheffield Children’s and donated my time to the installation project for free so that more of the money from the snowflake appeal goes to the hospital where it is needed”.

“We’d like to say thank you to Elev8 for their fantastic support of our snowflake appeal. Once again, the team have worked tirelessly, going above and beyond to help our hospital. We simply wouldn’t be able to deliver this project without their support. The money raised will help Sheffield Children’s where it is needed most, including by building a new on-site helipad. We’re hoping to complete our fundraising for this life-saving new facility in the spring, and by this time next year it might even be ready to welcome a landing from Santa’s sleigh!”
