Open day for HGV Drivers interested in a career in powered access

This weekend Elev8’s Sheffield depot held an open day for HGV drivers interested in a career in powered access, and it was a huge success.

The day was planned to give HGV class 1 or 2 drivers the opportunity to have a look at some of our access platforms and go up in the MEWP cage (mobile elevating work platform) to see if MEWP Operating might be the career for them.

We had a selection of access platforms available for visitors to look at with a range of working heights starting from 28.5 metres.  The Bronto S56XR proved to be very popular, with visitors enjoying the views over Sheffield with it’s 56 metres of working height and trying out some of it’s incredible 38.5 metres of lateral outreach.

Our visitors were able to chat to Elev8 MEWP Operators about their jobs, as well as meet members from our maintenance team, HR and management team who answered questions about working in powered access.

We were delighted that some of our existing MEWP Operators came along with their families to show them what they do for a living.  Some brave family members even went up in the MEWP basket, and I think we may well have some future MEWP Operators amongst them.

Experienced MEWP Operators with HGV Class 2 have the potential to earn an OTE of £50,000 at Elev8.  Elev8 MEWP Operators are paid for all the time they work, including travelling time from depot to our clients sites, and have generous stop out allowance and overtime rates.  Our  MEWP Operators are employed by Elev8 and get all the normal benefits of employment including holiday entitlement and a company pension.

Our MEWP Operators get the opportunity to travel across the UK and be involved in world class engineering projects.
