Last weekend we held our second careers open day for HGV drivers interested in a career in the powered access industry.
The day was a huge success, with lots of HGV drivers coming along to talk to us and take a trip up in an access platform.The day was planned to give HGV class 1 or 2 drivers the opportunity to have a look at some of our access platforms and go up in the MEWP cage (mobile elevating work platform) to see if MEWP Operating might be the career for them. Our visitors were able to chat to Elev8 MEWP Operators about their jobs as well as meet members of our maintenance, HR and management team who all answered questions about working in powered access.
It was lovely to see so many Elev8 MEWP Operators and their families at the event. Several family members were brave enough to go up in a MEWP cage to enjoy the views over Sheffield.
Thank you to everyone that came along to our open day on Saturday. It was fantastic to see such a variety of people with different backgrounds and qualifications interested in a career in powered access. I met HGV drivers with years of experience as well as new passes and people who had never done anything like MEWP Operating before. There was a great atmosphere, everyone was eager to participate and go up in one of our access platforms. Special thanks to our team of Elev8 MEWP Operators who were so helpful and committed on the day.
We had a wide selection of truck mounted access platforms available for visitors to see, as well as one of our tracked access platforms (the Leo 25T Plus). Six of our truck mounted MEWPS were at the open day, giving a working height range from 30 metres (the P300KS cherry picker) all the way up to 64 metres (the P640 powered access platform). Our new Ruthmann T510HF truck mounted MEWP was popular for visitors who wanted to go up in the work cage. Our biggest powered access platform at the event was the Palfinger P640, which boomed over the roof of our office buildings using some of its 38.2 metres of lateral outreach.

Experienced MEWP Operators with HGV Class 2 have the potential to earn an OTE of £50,000 at Elev8. Elev8 MEWP Operators are paid for all the time they work, including travelling time from depot to our clients sites, and have generous stop out allowance and overtime rates. Our MEWP Operators are employed by Elev8 and get all the normal benefits of employment including holiday entitlement and a company pension.
