2020 Looking back on a year we will never forget.

Well 2020 turned out a little differently than we were all expecting!  I hope that you and your loved ones remain well, and fingers crossed that 2021 brings a return to more normal life for us all.  Like all business’s over the course of the year we adapted our ways of working to limit the spread of Covid-19, and this included the launch of a MEWP basket shield, a physical barrier which is fixed into the MEWP basket between the operator and your team.

Despite all it’s challenges 2020 was a good year for Elev8.  We kept ourselves busy and there were several exciting new developments.

At the start of 2020 we added van mounted platforms to our hire fleet and these have proved to be so popular with our clients that we now have several options available including a MEWP mounted onto a 4×4 pickup, perfect for jobs in off road locations.  We have a wide range of van mounts to choose from starting from 13 metres of working height and going all the way up to 16.5 metres.  If you might find a van mount useful for your job you can see our full range here.

Elev8 are experts at safe working at height.   We have years of experience in safe access, lifting and working at height.   In 2020 we created a new division of Elev8 dedicated to providing fully project managed contract lifting solutions.   As well as having a vast array of in-house specialist lifting equipment available our contract lifting team have a wealth of knowledge about safely lifting materials and equipment.  Each lifting project is unique, and our team of Appointed Persons have the knowledge and training to design a safe lifting plan specifically for your job.   Elev8’s Appointed Person’s use their experience and skill to find innovative lifting solutions which are safe, cost effective and designed specifically for your project and your timescales.

Elev8’s health and safety team worked as hard as ever and one of their achievements in 2020 was the certification of our management system to ISO45001:2018, the international standard for occupational health and safety.  The standard replaces ISO18001 and encourages a proactive approach to health and safety as well as putting emphasis on leadership and employee engagement to promote a positive health and safety culture.  We are still maintaining our other safety certifications, but we know that some of our clients prefer their approved suppliers to hold ISO45001.  Find out more about Elev8’s certifications here.

We ended the year on a high at Doncaster Children’s Hospital.   Covid-19 has made life so much harder for everyone, but especially those having to stay in hospital.  Because visitors are limited, the poorly children staying in hospitals last Christmas had no Santa visits to the ward.  The children’s ward at Doncaster Hospital came up with the excellent idea of having Santa fly by outside the window to cheer up the children during their Christmas eve party, and Elev8 were happy to provide a free MEWP and IPAF qualified Santa to operate it.
